Rare Chinese Square-Tapered Form Porcelain Ginger Jar Lamp Conversion. Understated elegance as well as very unusually and well decorated. Hand painted with thick colorful enamels on all four sides illustrating the pursuits of scholars, wise men, and ladies. Scenes include the riding of all sorts of creatures including a goldfish (koi), a qilin, a crab, donkey, shell, a smoking bag, and a canoe made from a living tree. Wildly imaginative even by Chinese decorator standards. The piece has been converted into a fully functional electric lamp which is ready for your shade. Classical wood mountings on top and at the base. Chinese Longevity design symbol as brass finial. Has partial Qianlong Seal mark on base in red. Condition is excellent. Green felt has been opened underneath for inspection previously. Age: Mid-20th Century. 30 1/2" tall to top of finial. 18" to top of electric fixture. Body is 8 1/4" x 8 1/4". Base is 6 x 6" square.
