A finely hand painted display or cabinet plate with lustrous, rich enamels in brilliant colors accented with gold highlights. The main central scene depicts a group of scholars pondering their reading scrolls on an ornate table. The outer portion has fine paintings of further scholars' objects, auspicious objects and precious objects in a lovely array of colours that include jade green, blue, brick red, yellow and brown. Japanese works are of a high quality. Hallmarked on the underside with a red hand drawn mark in overglaze red. Last half 20th century. Excellent condition.
