Rare Large Antique 19th Century Chinese Carved & Lacquered Wood Figure of the Goddess Guan Yin, With Secret Compartment 35"

A very rare example of an 19th Century Chinese large scale carved & lacquered figure of a Medical Guan Yin.   Few are to be found.
Carved with great attention to detail by a master craftsman, she wears a flowing gown with intricate hair and headdress. She cradles a ruyi sceptor in the right arm and is holding a golden 'tablet' in the left hand. The robe is carved with bamboo leaves and is intricately edged.
Age: 19th Century, solid wood with red and black lacquers, some traces of old gilt.
Outlines of three secret panels in the back area.
Condition: Overall good. Has original finish and has wear/loss consistent with typical examples from the period.  Back has been opened to reveal a secret compartment.
Dimensions: 35" tall x 10" x 6". 12.3 pounds.
This impressive figure of the Goddess of Mercy has the potential to look absolutely stunning when displayed on the correct stand and in the right lighting. A beautiful and rare antique piece worthy of any collection.
