A very gorgeous vintage Chinese rosewood jewellery box. Eight solid jade panels with bamboo & lotus motifs decorate the piece throughout - the hand carved jade is translucent light green and of a good quality. The box has dovetailed construction with engraved butterfly-form brass fittings & leaf style door pulls.
Designed as a miniature Chinese cabinet with hinged doors opening to reveal 4 red silk-lined drawers and a larger drawer at the bottom with secret lower compartment. A very nice example of Chinese Jewellery storage boxes featuring layers of decorative and symbolic elements. The jade panels alone are valuable in themselves. This would make a super gift or present. Mid-20th Century. "Made in Peoples Republic of China" label on underside. Condition is excellent with only minor signs of wear. No markings.
