A very pleasing and original oil on canvas by L. Berends. En plein air style - the tranquil snowy winter scene depicts an old Dutch lakefront windmill with a village in the distance. Both the composition and execution are simply wonderful. Signed lower left with a short biography on the verso. From the bio: "Was born in London in 1907. Studied in London, Paris and Rome under the guiding hands of well-known artists and leaders. He now lives near London where he is well known for his English and Scottish and Irish landscapes. Mounted in the original carved wood patinated frame and matting. Signed lower left by the artist. Mid-20th century. This lovely oil painting is in excellent condition and will not dissapoint upon arrival.
