Large Chinese Tang Dynasty horse and young rider on a rectangular plinth. A colourfully glazed Sancai ceramic piece, the horse has it's front leg raised and the boy is wearing a rich blue coat and black cap - riders face and base unglazed.
It is unusual to find a horse with it's rider in this style. In very good condition overall. Actual age unknown - this T'ang horse and rider may well be a treasure waiting to be discovered - these figures or statues make impressive visual displays in the home or office.
The Sancai technique dates back to the Tang dynasty (618–907AD). Sancai sculptures remain one of the most admired art forms to this day.
Dimensions: L13", D5", H15" approx.
