A pair of very nice urns from the historic Yamatoku Kilns (Saga Prefecture) of Japan renown for its fine porcelain. Hand painted in colorful enamels against a striking blue mottled glaze. Wrap-around design portraying a pair of colourful phoenix birds perched on pink and white flowering cherry blossom branches interspersed with larger yellow, pink and orange flowers.
Lower jade green and turquoise plantain leaf border, with upper floral borders on black glaze. A very elegant and desirable pair of blue urns/vases.
Each marked "Made in Japan" on the underside.
Taisho era (1912 - 1926)
Condition is excellent with no damage or repair. Typical gold rubbing to cover finial.
Each is 15 1/2" tall x 8" diameter.
