Large Antique Chinese Famille Rose ginger jar with lid late 19th Century/early 20th. Century.
This is an elegant piece that has two very carefully hand painted landscaped panels in rich colourful overglaze enamels. The scenes contain phoenix birds within a lush natural landscape with blossoming trees on traditional Chinese form rocks. Yellow, pale blue and pink ruyi shoulder border and a geometric orange, pink and yellow border around the base.
Painted by a talented artist who took care in executing the panels. Hand painted six character reign mark in underglaze iron red.
Acquired from a collector of fine Chinese porcelains who has amassed such over the last 40 years.

Tongzhi 1862-1874
The Tongzhi (To Rule Together a State of Order) Emperor, born Zaichun AISIN GIORO in April 27, 1856, became emperor at the age of five as the only surviving son of the Xianfeng Emperor and the Noble Consort Yi (Empress Dowager Cixi). He was the ninth emperor of the Manchu Qing Dynasty, and the eight Qing emperor to rule over China.
During his period in practice his mother, the Empress Dowager Cixi, wielded the real power, ruling sitting behind a curtain in the audience hall. Under his reign some attempts to political reforms was made, which are know as the Tongzhi Restoration.
