Large 19th. C. Antique Masons Ironstone covered tureen, with foral & gilt decoration over a beautiful olive green glaze. Whimsical naturalistic bent-twig handles with candy-stripe decoration. 3-piece, includes the tureen bowl, cover, and under-tray.
Mason's ironstone was founded by Miles Mason around 1802 and operated the company until 1848. In 1858 Morley and Ashworth purchased the company and continued to produce Mason wares. This tureen is from the Morley & Ashworth period.
Underside of the bowl and tray with the elaborate factory mark printed in red together with an impressed English registry mark indicating a manufacturing date of 1864.
Condition is excellent with the exception of an almost imperceptible stress crack at the ladle opening on the lid.
Assembled dimensions: 14 1/2" long x 10 1/2" wide x 9 1/2" high. Tray: 1 3/4" high x 14 1/2" x 10 1/2". Tureen & cover: 14 1/2" x 9" x 9" high.
